Volunteer Information

Share your time, talents, and connect while attending the STTI 27th International Research Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. Join fellow attendees and STTI staff by volunteering in any of the areas listed below. You are eligible to volunteer once you have registered for the event. Sign-up for a volunteer shift today!

The following volunteer positions will be available for registered attendees of the 27th International Nursing Research Congress, 21-25 July 2016. Visit the volunteer sign-up page or contact Janell Jackson if there are any questions regarding the volunteer opportunities.

Ensure that participants are checked in, given the correct information about the event, and directed to their room assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Check in participants and provide registration and/or event materials to participants and guests.
  • Answer questions concerning congress and/or the facility.
  • Create a welcoming environment for attendees, with a pleasant and helpful demeanor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Attend a pre-event training webinar.
  • Be able to multitask.
  • Have a pleasant and helpful attitude.
  • Be able to lift 10 or more pounds.
  • Be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Time Commitment: Minimum of two hours per opportunity
Training and Orientation: STTI staff will provide training, orientation, ongoing support, and supervision.

Greet attendees and assist with seat selection.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome dignitaries and attendees.
  • Assist with seating if needed.
  • Distribute any event materials (e.g., programs, brochures).
  • Support staff with additional tasks.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time and manage stairs, and stage risers unassisted.
  • Lift 10 or more pounds.

Time Commitment: Minimum of two hours per opportunity
Training and Orientation: STTI staff will provide training, orientation, ongoing support, and supervision.

Assist attendees with STTI merchandise purchases.

Responsibilities
  • Answer questions and assist with purchase selections.
  • Help staff keep merchandise organized.
  • Monitor marketplace inventory.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Have a pleasant and helpful demeanor.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Be able to lift 10 or more pounds.

Time Commitment: Minimum of two hours per opportunity
Training and Orientation: STTI staff will provide training, orientation, ongoing support, and supervision.

Greet attendees and answer general questions concerning congress and the facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome attendees to the event.
  • Answer attendees’ questions regarding the event, session rooms, and facilities.
  • Assist staff as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Have a pleasant and helpful demeanor.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Be able to lift 10 or more pounds.
  • Be able to multitask, answer multiple questions, and speak to large groups.

Time Commitment: Minimum of two hours per opportunity
Training and Orientation: STTI staff will provide training, orientation, ongoing support, and supervision.

Work with STTI staff to prepare the poster presentation area and assist with cleanup.

Responsibilities
  • Aid presenters with finding their poster location.
  • Answer presenters’ questions, and provide setup materials and direction.
  • Assist staff with poster removal if presenters don’t retrieve them.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Have a pleasant and helpful demeanor.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Be able to lift 10 or more pounds.
  • Be able to multitask, answer multiple questions, and speak to large groups.

Time Commitment: Minimum of two hours per opportunity
Training and Orientation: STTI staff will provide training, orientation, ongoing support, and supervision.

Introduce presenters and facilitate questions during sessions.

Responsibilities
  • Review required information with presenters.
  • Introduce the presenters.
  • Monitor the room.
  • Facilitate the question-and-answer dialogue between the audience and presenter(s).
  • Complete a short Moderator Report Form for feedback and evaluation of each session you moderate.
  • Obtain the signature of each presenter at the session.
  • Arrive in the room at least 10 minutes before the session is to start.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Have a pleasant and helpful demeanor.
  • Attend a short scheduled moderator briefing session. (Information about this will be included in registration packets.)
  • Be able to stand for one- to two-hour shifts.

Time Commitment: Minimum of two hours per opportunity
Training and Orientation: STTI staff will provide training, orientation, ongoing support, and supervision.

Assist moderators and speakers with the check-in process.

Responsibilities
  • Check in presenters and/or moderators.
  • Provide packets to moderators.
  • Provide continuing nursing education (CNE) certificates to speakers and moderators.

  • Attend a pre-event training webinar.
  • Have a pleasant and helpful attitude.
  • Be able to lift 10 or more pounds.
  • Be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
